Welcome to ORBIT

A short, camera-based test of how the eyes respond to pictures.
There is nothing to press and no right or wrong answer: you simply look at the screen.

Just lookYour camera follows where you look. Nothing else is needed.
Private by designVideo is analysed on this device and is never saved or sent anywhere.
A few minutesEach test takes between 15 seconds and five minutes.
Who is being tested?

Research prototype. ORBIT is not a medical device and its results are not a diagnosis.

Pictures

The novelty tests use the built-in set unless you load your own pictures here: two sets, A and B, paired in order. Your own images stay in this browser.

Novelty test settings

Each trial shows one picture on both sides (study), a blank with a central cross, then the same picture beside a new one (test). The defaults follow published adult studies; shorten them to find the briefest version that still works.

The graded test runs all 40 of its trials unless you change Trials here; it then uses whole blocks of 10 (10, 20 or 30).

Forms A and B use the same picture pairs in the same order and differ only in which object of each pair is the familiar one. Give half of a group each form.

Units and distance

These two steps let ORBIT report gaze in degrees of visual angle and picture sizes in degrees. Both are remembered on this device.

1 · Screen scale

Hold a bank card flat against the screen and drag the slider until the outline is exactly as wide as the card.

2 · Viewing distance

ORBIT estimates distance from the apparent size of the iris. To calibrate it for this camera, start the camera, measure the distance from your eyes to the screen with a ruler, and enter it.
